Technological advances in the healthcare industry make it possible for patients to get better care and for doctors to provide more effective treatment. For example, during the Covid-19 pandemic, telehealth made it possible for patients to meet with providers from the comfort of their own homes.
At the CES 2022 technology trade show earlier this year, companies showed off the latest advances in health technology, including wearable devices that will track blood pressure and glucose levels and monitor the body for signs of infection.
Health advisors often partner with their clients to maximize the benefits of new technology and improve their client’s care. Here are some advances in health technology that the BHA team is excited about:
“I recently came across two medical innovations that are going to significantly improve the lives of millions and millions of people: A high-tech brain implant that tracks movement signals in the brain will help patients with severe paralysis recover lost motor control and interact with their environment. A new artificial intelligence tool that rapidly detects sepsis by monitoring patients’ electronic medical records in real time will allow for early intervention, which can save lives. Both of these advances will have an incredible impact in healthcare.” – Eeva Caldara, MSN, FNP-BC, Senior Advisor
“I’ve never found earbuds comfortable, and I recently started using bone conduction headphones. Instead of going in your ear, bone conduction headphones rest on your upper cheekbones. Because they don’t obstruct any incoming sound, you can still hear what’s going on around you. If you wear hearing aids inside your ear, bone-conducting headphones can be used with the hearing aids in place—the placement doesn’t interfere.” – Beverly Shenkman, MA, M.ED, Senior Advisor
“New technology can be challenging for seniors, and they're the group most likely to benefit from advances in healthcare technology. Candoo is a company that offers tech support and training to help older adults feel more comfortable with phones, computers, tablets, and more. Their services help seniors take advantage of new technology to monitor their health and stay independent.” – John Samuels, Founder & CEO
As health technology advances, both in the healthcare system and at the consumer level, the Better Health Advisors team will be monitoring new developments. We look forward to continuing to find innovative solutions for complex healthcare problems so that our clients receive the best possible care.
