COVID-19

The Best Non-COVID19 Care Tips

Together, we will emerge from the pandemic more resilient.

With each week of social distancing, we have stood together to diligently flatten the curve and slow the spread of infection. This is undeniably challenging work, yet Better Health Advisors encourages you to stay the course. During these unprecedented times, Better Health Advisors can help you, your families, and your companies plan for COVID19 care. We believe in creating customized health plans to help you manage your unique healthcare needs for both COVID19 and non-COVID19 situations. In addition to COVID19, it’s important to pay attention to non-COVID19 related health issues. Always consider the severity of your symptoms or medical condition and if there is an immediate life threatening condition, call 911.

If it’s not life threatening, here are BHA’s Top Three Non-COVID19 Health Care Tips:

1 - Consider Telehealth. The pandemic has accelerated the acceptance of telehealth nationwide, which presents the opportunity for patients to interact with their providers in new ways and maintain social distancing.

  • Call your primary care doctor and your health advisor to discuss treatment options.
  • An appointment over the phone or a virtual visit can assess and resolve the situation.
  • Many medical practices have recently upgraded their telehealth platforms to improve care and communication.

2 - Care for Chronic Conditions Must Continue. Although elective procedures and surgeries have largely been postponed to save resources for COVID19 patients, chronic conditions shouldn’t be ignored during the pandemic.

  • Care for chronic conditions is essential for maintaining good health, so we encourage you to communicate with your healthcare provider virtually, follow treatment plans, and adhere to medications.  Even though providers are very busy with COVID19, don’t be afraid to reach out to them to help you manage your condition.
  • For care that is critically important, consider having a conversation with your doctor to weigh the risks and benefits of proceeding with care. Some people are delaying care if that is a reasonable option. An example would be a cancer patient who needs to carefully monitor the progression of their disease.
  • Stay abreast of local developments as governors start to reopen the economy and coronavirus cases decline, elective procedures and surgeries could resume in your area.

3 - Medication AdherenceIs More Important Than Ever.

  • Even though we are socially isolating, it is crucial to continue taking your prescribed medications that are essential, for example cardiac medications.
  • Many prescription drug plans offer mail-order services, so you can contact your plan for more information.

However, it is important to note that a wide variety of symptoms can present as COVID-19, so seek medical advice when in question.
